Lace Top with Exposed Zipper

Ok, this is the last addition to the exposed zipper series :) I've done it now with silk, knit, leather and now lace :) This is a stretch lace top, fully lined, with an exposed zipper.

This is self-explanatory :)

T-shirt with leather shoulder details

One of my favorite bloggers had a post the other day of a white t-shirt with some black leather in the shoulders and sleeves (http://www.mystylepill.com/2013/08/leather-details/), so I decided to recreate it and here it is :)

V-neck t-shirt with lace sleeves

I had some of this purple knit left and I just got this amazing lace at Pacific Fabrics. So wiped this up last night :) I am going to get some more of this lace and make an easy evening dress.

Knit and Faux Leather Top

A very luxe little t-shirt :) some faux leather from JoAnn's and left-over knit from Mood and this is what I came up with :)

Mixed Faux Leather and Double Knit Pencil Skirt

Simple pencil skirt with an invizible zipper. I mixed some black faux leather and grey double knit. It turned out a bit short, but it's ok, I can wear it with tights and boots in the winter.

Pleather Top with an Exposed Zipper

I did it! Perfectly even metallic exposed zipper on a simple pleather top :) Sleeves are perfect, the entire shape is a perfect fit, and the exposed zipper is nice and even!

Exposed Zipper

I found this great little tutorial for doing the exposed zipper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qRzjoTXWQwhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qRzjoTXWQw and tonight I tried it. So far I only did a sample. Here are some things that I found:

1. no need to use interfacing
2. make the seam below the zipper at 3/4 of an inch wide (10 little marks actually)
3. place the zipper so that its top edge matches the neck edge of the garment (or sample)
4. end (or rather start) the seam below the zipper right where the zipper ends (its metal end)
5. don't tuck in the bottom edges of the zipper. Leave them as they are, completely exposed.
6. at first, when you attach the zipper only to the folded edge, sew as close to the zipper teeth as you can
7. when you attach the zipper to the actual garment, sew as close to the zipper edge as possible

Anyway, here's what I was able to do so far tonight. Tomorrow I'll actually put this on a top in the back.

Graphic Tee: My Version

I've been making a lot of t-shirts lately. I find it very silly to pay $50 for one, when I can just as easily pick up some knit fabric (for me, it takes less than 1/2 yard per t-shirt = around $7), order whatever images I want from Spoonflower (their crepe-de-shin patches are $5 and I get to edit these images any way I want using their myriad of filters) and sew a t-shirt (in about 20 minutes) that fits me just right.

Here is a collection of my favorite patches. Some of these I've already used. Some are coming in the mail shortly :) So far I've been playing with copyright images, so I can't sell the t-shirts I make. But that's ok. My goal at this point is not to sell clothes. It's to dress myself.

Пожар в Джунглях = Fire in the Jungle

This stunning silk from Mood is so wonderful to work with! I originally ordered one yard to make a blouse, but I just had to have an easy dress, so I got one more yard and voila! :) I took two pictures: first without flash (this is what the fabric looks like in real life, this warm, rich color), and second with flash to bring out the details of the print some more.

I absolutely love this dress! I can't wait to wear it with some brown boots and cool earrings. Very happy with the result! And yes, this is my own pattern.

Roman Holiday

I loved this semi-sheer and slightly wrinkled knit from Mood so much that I ordered 5 more yards of it. It's absolutely perfect for light, easy t-shirts and tops. And I finally put to good use two of my Roman Holiday patches :)
